Model-independent radiative symmetry breaking and gravitational waves

چکیده
Models where symmetries are predominantly broken (and masses then generated) through radiative corrections typically produce strong first-order phase transitions with a period of supercooling, when the temperature dropped by several orders magnitude. Here it is shown that model-independent description these phenomena and consequent production potentially observable gravitational waves possible in terms few parameters (which computable once model specified) if enough supercooling occurred. It explicitly found how large should be those parameters, order for to valid. also explained systematically improve accuracy such computing higher-order an expansion powers small quantity, which function above-mentioned parameters. Fully Radiative Electroweak Symmetry Breaking
Models of Gauge-Higgs unification in extra dimensions offer a very elegant playground where one can study electroweak symmetry breaking. The nicest feature is that gauge symmetry itself protects the Higgs potential from divergences, thus potentially curing the hierarchy problem in the Standard Model. In a flat space model tree-level contributions to electroweak precision observables will be abs...
متن کاملRadiative electroweak symmetry breaking in a Little Higgs model
Abstract: We present a new Little Higgs model, motivated by the deconstruction of a five-dimensional gauge-Higgs model. The approximate global symmetry is SO(5)0×SO(5)1, breaking to SO(5), with a gauged subgroup of [SU(2)0L × U(1)0R] × O(4)1, breaking to SU(2)L×U(1)Y . Radiative corrections produce an additional small vacuum misalignment, breaking the electroweak symmetry down to U(1)EM. Novel ...
متن کاملGravitational Waves: Just Plane Symmetry
We present some remarkable properties of the symmetry group for gravitational plane waves. Our main observation is that metrics with plane wave symmetry satisfy every system of generally covariant vacuum field equations except the Einstein equations. The proof uses the homothety admitted by metrics with plane wave symmetry and the scaling behavior of generally covariant field equations. We also...
متن کاملRadiative Electroweak Symmetry Breaking Beyond Leading Logarithms
The top-quark Yukawa coupling is too large to permit radiative electroweak symmetry breaking to occur for small values of y, the Higgs self-coupling, to leading-logarithm order. However, a large y solution leading to a viable Higgs mass of approximately 220GeV does exist, and differs from conventional symmetry breaking by an approximately five-fold enhancement of the Higgs self-coupling. This s...
متن کاملRadiative symmetry breaking in brane models
We propose a way to generate the electroweak symmetry breaking radiatively in non-supersymmetric type I models with string scale in the TeV region. By identifying the Higgs field with a tree-level massless open string state, we find that a negative squared mass term can be generated at one loop. It is finite, computable and typically a loop factor smaller than the string scale, that acts as an ...
